Google randomly notified me regarding your inconsiderate idea of seizing a 175-Year-old *Working* Farm. I wrote a cool diatribe with alternates that could be considered however I was typing on the Google Review instead of an auto save document and the power went out so this probably will not be as smooth. I have an alternative idea…. You and your committee could place *your* homes up for rent or sale as affordable housing like another poster mention. Which segues into Kelo, et al. v. City of New London, Connecticut
Technically New London won the case…. However, what’s in the location of the homes that were taken???
That’s right! Nothing. They won muwahahahahah! Kicked everyone out then Pfizer up and left. (Full discloser; I own some Pfizer stock directly and probably indirectly via retirement plan).
Oh, wait even better: (per Wikipedia)
The Kelo fiasco eventually cost the taxpayers tens of millions of dollars, with nothing to show for it. The "carefully vetted" municipal plans that formed the basis for the Supreme Court's decision proved to be illusory.[54
I looked on Google maps and they are finally in 2025 building a community center, with it’s placement they *still* wouldn’t have needed Kelo’s little pink house.
In the meanwhile, with Cranbury Township, I see on the map *Fischer Acres Associates* between Old Cranbury Rd & S. Main Street. Which would be a nice area for houses. There’s Millstone River and another stream nearby with a larger area so that the “affordable” homes didn’t have to be too compact. This location is closer to the town hall and it looks like shopping to the south.
There also appears to be swaths of land between Old Trenton Rd and Cranbury Neck Rd. Now I don’t know if they have 100+ year old farm houses or not, but is it’s possible that they would entertain an offer? Or just open it up to a general hey anyone want to sell us land? Do you have a real plan for the land, or is this just a random land grab and/or will the plan change at the last minute into something else?
A person in a facebook post mentioned there was another possibly better location unfortunately they didn’t mention where or who owned it. But if there’s a plot of land that someone is willing to sell hey why not use that land?
I wonder if a couple townships could get in on it, like carbon trading so they go in together to meet their “State Mandated” goals. Or sue the state? One is this an Unfunded Mandate? Two what’s the Penalty if it doesn’t succeed? It took 20ish years for the National Gov. to finally get Real ID done. You, according to a quick google search, have until 2035 for affordable housing… And I’m thinking houses will be less expensive to wages compared to today’s prices by then. You have a decade which is little less than 6% of how long this farm has been worked.
I gave Five Stars because it appears that the People of Cranbury are indignant about this and are trying to save the Henry Farm. If it *wasn’t* for the local population wanting to save the farm I’d tell the Henry’s to sell to a warehouse for $$$, to One get the money and Two to put a monkey wrench into the plans of the Town Council. I think the people understand that history can be a *good* thing and if a Town Council is that out to lunch with something like this *what* else are they up to?
