Today I explored the Herrontown Woods Red Trail. Until now, my hikes have mostly been flat and beginner-friendly, but this trail gave me a taste of elevation. It’s a bit rocky, so I wouldn’t recommend hiking it after rainy days unless you have proper boots and basic gear.
The trail includes a charming botanical garden and the historic Veblen Cottage, which is sometimes used for yoga sessions (though I’m not sure about the exact schedule). Around both areas, you’ll find chairs and tables—great for small groups to sit, relax, and chat.
Every first Sunday of the month, May's Café serves coffee from 9 AM to 11 AM. It’s a lovely way to start your morning in nature.
While the trails aren’t ideal for young kids, the botanical garden offers a fun experience for them, including a special gardening program designed just for children.
The trails are dog-friendly, so feel free to bring your furry companions. If you want to spend more time outdoors, Herrontown Woods connects to Autumn Hill Trails and All Saints Trail, giving you even more scenic paths to explore..
This place is great for a walk/hike. Perfect to bring your kids and your dogs.
Herrontown Woods emerges as a crown jewel within the realm of natural preserves, offering an unparalleled hiking experience that caters to both the adventurous spirit and the serene soul seeking refuge in nature's lap. The myriad of trails crisscrossing through the woods provides a splendid tableau of the local ecosystem, allowing hikers of all skill levels to immerse themselves in the beauty and tranquility of the forest. What sets Herrontown Woods apart is the delightful challenge presented by the rocky terrain, which adds an element of excitement and engagement to the hiking experience without detracting from the ease of navigation and accessibility.
The presence of rocks scattered along the trails not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the landscape but also invites hikers to engage more fully with their surroundings, promoting a sense of adventure and exploration. This unique feature ensures that each visit to Herrontown Woods is a distinctive journey, offering new discoveries and perspectives of the natural world. The well-marked trails, coupled with the serene environment, make for a hiking experience that is both invigorating and calming, offering a perfect escape from the monotony of daily life.
It's a park, there are no tickets for entry. This park made me think it was like something that mythical fairs would put together 😂 there were chairs up on trees, trails to go walking, open shed to build your own walking sticks (tools open to the public to use) I think once it's spring the park will come alive with beautiful greenery but in fall/winter time things are dormant but still beautiful. There was also a shed with board games to play and books
Great hiking trails plus lots of places to just sit and relax in nature. They have a Little Free Library that I maintained by Princeton Public Library.
