It's a very, very, very fine house.
The John Abbott II House is located at 2200 Kuser Road in Hamilton Township and was built circa 1730.
During the Revolution, Samuel Tucker, the NJ Treasurer, fled the British advance on Trenton in 1776 and removed the money in his care to the home of John Abbott II. The location of the funds was betrayed to the British which led to a 500-strong detachment of British troops being dispatched to the house. However, thanks in part to clever planning and some good luck, the British never uncovered the hiding place for the signed money, which was then available to be used to pay the Colonial troops at the time.
Most of the structure and its furnishings are original or period-pieces.
The Docent was quite good and brought that era to life during his tour.
The house has sufficient parking and is open on Saturday and Sunday from 12-5PM.
Beautiful museum, very well maintained and with a lot of history.
