It's a good place for kids, not a big and fancy library, but it's decent.

It's a small, cute local library with friendly librarians and staff members. But, children are always on the adult side of the computers playing video games even during the homework hours between (2-5pm). You would feel like you walked into a game zone rather than a library. I noticed Bayside and Douglaston library locations strictly prohibits children from playing video games during these hours and they also prevent children using Teen and Adult computers out of their safety concerns.

I went to go get my library card with the expectation of having a bad visit because of all the recent negative reviews but I got my library card in less than 5minutes and the Asian lady at the front who helped me was really friendly. I’m not really sure who the last reviews were talking about but I assume/hope those reviews were heard because I had a great visit.

The new manager in this library is mean and unkind. I see that she is serious and strict in her work. She made a lot of new rules for her convenience but made people unwelcome. I had other personal experience that made me upset but I’m going to directly report it to the higher level in Queens library. I go to many other Queens library and they are all helpful and super kind.
I live close by and my kids go there often so I’ll have to put up with her until my kids grow up.

I used to like this branch a lot until I encountered their (new?) librarians recently. This is not my local library (my local branch is under construction), but I am willing to drive 10 minutes there and find street parking, carrying a baby with two toddlers, for the children’s classes they offer. I always borrow many books at once for my three kids, so I don’t have to keep coming back since it’s not convenient for me to go there. The recent incident made me think that the staff are not very family-friendly and made me upset. I was trying to return the phonic books as a set of six, but for some reason one book doesn’t have the label for return. Their manager wouldn’t let me return that one book without label and wouldn’t let me return the rest of the books in the set. She made me check the rest of the books in the set out again and wanted me to return next time with one more phonic book (this one is not even in the same series) that I had at home to make the set complete (6 books). I was carrying a heavy baby and with two toddlers while carrying nearly twenty other books that I checked out. It really made me think she has no sympathy over a mother carrying a baby with two kids. I was disappointed. Then, yesterday, I was trying to return a book that we lost the cover, another librarian said I can’t return without a cover. Well, I didn’t meant to lose it, that’s why I asked for “help.” But, she asked me to go home and look for it. Very disappointing that they just keep asking me to bring back home the books while I was hoping they could help make the return processes easier. I hope no one else, especially moms with young kids, will experience this.
