I loved how welcomed I felt visiting this church. Great parishioners and priests
This is a beautiful looking church with a very nice courtyard. Sadly, when I visited the church was closed.
St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, 1932. St. Fidelis constructed the first church building in College Point in 1856. That original wood-frame structure was home to small German-speaking congregation. This 1895 brick church was constructed on the plot of land originally occupied by a small cemetery. Instead of knocking down and replacing the church, the old structure remained open for use as the new church was being constructed. Most of the graves were exhumed and moved for reburial at St. Mary's in Flushing. The plot of the church's founder remains on site and through the early 20th century numerous items of burial (coffins, gravestones, and bones) were found on the site of the new church. The plot that was originally occupied by the first church is now occupied by a Dominican convent.
I had an inquiry regarding scheduling a baptism and needed guidance. I recently moved to College Point from Italy and the receptionist, I believe her name is Isabela, was extremely helpful and had an answer for anything I had. Thank you St. Fidelis, and for your wonderfuf staff.
My mother in law is very sickly and in ICU. She has been a member of ST. FIDELIS and has donated $$$ all her life --82 years to this church. Would you believe when I asked that the priest from her church go to see her and give her last rights, the receptionist responded they have Priests in the hospital. How greedy of them. Shame Shame. The woman was baptized there and was a weekly church goer. She also donated a great deal of money. They are just greedy.
