Beautiful church and service.
As a Latin rite catholic, I have had interest in eastern Christianity for a while now. I was at first intimidated to attend my first Divine Liturgy, as I was so used to going to mass. I ended up having an extraordinarily great time, really connecting with the Liturgy and the traditions. I think that me being in my early 20’s and living in a generation so consumed by tech, AI, etc is what really led to me seeking something organic, traditional and where I can really feel the presence of god immensely. Highly recommend coming here if you have interest in Eastern Christianity.
I love to hear the videos of chants and hymns this church posts on social media!
This church was always so beautiful to me growing up, still when I pass I have to look over at it. It just has that comforting feeling to it.
When visiting Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine (Ruthenian) Catholic Church (OLPH), you will be warmly welcomed by the dynamic pastor and friendly parishioners. A Levittown landmark since the late 1950s, OLPH's golden domes continue to watch over this community from its prominent location on Woodbourne Road.
Liturgy is paramount at OLPH. Clouds of sweet smelling incense rise as the talented cantors lead the congregation in chanting the responses to the liturgy. While liturgy is taken very seriously, you can always expect an upbeat homily with a smile from the pastor. Attend liturgy once to be inspired. Attend liturgy for several weeks in a row and you will quickly find yourself becoming comfortable almost like you have belonged for years. Fellowship, an important component of the Eastern Christian experience, is also part of life at OLPH. Periodic parish coffees after liturgy and other social events are enjoyed throughout the year.
In addition to Byzantine Catholics, all other Catholics should feel encouraged to visit OLPH and experience the timeless beauty and solemnity of Eastern Catholic worship in the Divine Liturgy as well as the other liturgies that are celebrated during the year.
