Caputo's did our wedding cake in 1974, and it was absolutely delicious. Guests raved about it long after. So, when we went looking for a genuine Italian pastry shop, I naturally chose Caputo's. Sadly, it was a huge disappointment. The service was fine, the girls behind the counter were very sweet, but not much there was the Italian pastry I grew up with. The canoli cake my granddaughter wanted for her birthday didn't resemble any canoli cake I had ever seen. It was a tiny chocolate icing- covered bomb, and we later discovered it was mostly chocolate cake with a thin layer of canoli cream. There was no price listed, but it must have been considerable, because that a cherry pie and 1lb of cookies came to $82. In addition, the cherry pie was the worst I've ever had, consisting of few cherries and plenty of what seemed nothing more than canned pie filling. What a shame that succeeding generations let the high standards go by the wayside! If you don't know Italian pastry, you might find this place tolerable, but barely. So sad.

Everything is always fresh, and there's a great selection. Definitely get the sfogliatelle.
On a side note you can't tip on credit card there. So if you're getting a big order bring some cash for the tip jar.
Staff is always amazing. You cannot go wrong with any of the pastries there. Even if you’re not a local they definitely make you feel welcomed like you are.
I have lived next to caputos my whole life and have purchased baked goods from here more times than I could count. The staff is always friendly but the product quality has gone way way down, the bread is good but anything else seems to always fall short, the jelly cookies have no jelly and what is there has no flavor (if you tasted this blind folded you wouldn’t be able to guess they had jelly in a million years) the cookies lack flavor and the texture seems to be getting lighter and drier to the point that it feels they are trying to use air as a filler. The last couple years I have gotten cookie and cake that taste stale or like the display case if that makes sense… I went today and got home to try the cookies, they have no flavor and no jelly it was seriously disappointing to the point that I decided I cannot justify spending (wasting) my money here. They have proved time and time again that the quality is not going to improve and no matter how much nostalgia tricked me into purchasing more times then I should have, it just isn’t worth the money.
I’m Canadian and I came here.
They have onion rolls. Delicious onion rolls. They also have the softest fluffiest bread and pastries. Like cotton!
Amazing little bakery. Don’t miss it.
