On a beautiful early Spring day my wife and I went to tour The Cranbury Museum in Cranbury NJ. The house, in various stages, dates from 1834, and was acquired by The Cranbury Historical Society in 1972, and has been restored to its original condition and decor. The floors have reproduced wide-pine floorboards and the paint colors were formulated using the same ingredients that were used more than one century ago.
Elaine was our Docent and she was extremely knowledgeable and interspersed appropriate anecdotes from her childhood in Canada where she spent quite some time with her Grandparents and had first-hand experience with outdoor plumbing and living in houses without central heat. These anecdotes contributed mightily to our sense of having been transported back in time some 150+ years.
There is sufficient on-street parking, and the Museum is open on most Sundays from 1-4PM.

Well above the average for a small town historical society museum, the Pevahouse collection of period photographs, music, and artifacts provide insights into rural Southern culture as it was in transition. Small but choice.

Wonderful little museum. Knowledgeable and friendly docents. Love coming back to check out the temporary exhibits.
