I enrolled in the Edison Job Corps Academy on August 12, 2002, and graduated in the summer of 2005. During my time there, I earned my high school diploma and completed my trade, as well as obtaining my driver’s license. One of my proudest achievements was being named MVP of the basketball team in 2004.
Reflecting on my experiences, I have so many wonderful memories of the friendships I made and the lessons I learned. Job Corps provided invaluable support to me and many others, and I often share my positive experiences with friends.
While I faced challenges, I was terminated three times due to conflicts. I was fortunate to be welcomed back each time, which taught me resilience and the importance of communication. I even had a couple of relationships during my time there that contributed to my personal growth.
It's truly bittersweet to hear that the academy is shutting down. I will always cherish the time I spent there, the people I met, and the skills I gained.
I graduated fromn1997 - 1998 Ioved that school. it has the best classes and trades. The dorm was very clean and nice. I don't know how it is now. But the pass we hoot paid every two weeks, and then after you graduate they pay for your college tuition and transportation. After you leave job Corp my check was 3,000 dollars that job Corp had gave me. 5+the 90s job Corp was the best...
This center does not provide any health care as their wellness staff are not able to help with anything they barely ever have a nurse they are so underfunded that students will go without necessary items for things like self-care trips for necessities and for students that can't leave campus those are very important. we're always told staff can't afford things for students they can't even afford enough chairs, the trades that are said to be offered are barely accessible and will lack a teacher for months at a time in academics and trade. food for people with allergies and dietary restrictions aren't given. generally this campus has good students but unprofessional staff and nothing to provide for students I feel like you are set up to fail at this center.
I’m giving this place a a 4 star . I’ve enjoyed my time here despite the drama , curfews strict rules which is out the administration control. The staff really care. I got my high school diploma and a trade and making good money. Downfalls are the dorms are old and food could be a lot better but it’s a government funded free program so I get it . Right before I was leaving the director was really working hard fixing issues in the dorm and cafeteria . I personally think him and the staff really care about the wellbeing of the students considering what they deal with.
