This studio museum was a pleasant surprise! It is located at a small town, Island Height, NJ, facing the famous Seaside Height beach.
I was impressed that the tiny museum is equipped with a lift that can bring any wheelchair users to the 2nf floor. There are many steps and turns on the stairs. If you are a cane user, I suggest that you will use the lift.
The exhibition, Wearable Art of the Maya, displayed beautiful indigenous artwork from Guatemala.
It was very helpful that they had a tour guide, Christina, explained the development of these art pieces.
I was also very attracted to a few pieces of John F. Peto. Don't you love the colors and lighting on those orange and peels?
It's a magnificent museum you never heard of. We had a lovely tour of the home and art of J.F Peto ,a great American artist. And the house is filled with the objects in his paintings. Lots of family history form very knowledgeable tour guides.
This is the premier active art history museum in Ocean County and the State of New Jersey. With a new edition that allows ADA access to the first floor Peto Museum yas opened up so much for others including a new addition with a gallery. The paintings and history behind each one is amazing. Also having lots of objects that are in the paintings makes it so real. This is a must see for the visiting Island Heights, going towards Seaside or returning. Absolutely top notch.
Beautiful and well preserved museum, once you step you’re transported to his era, the administration is very welcoming and nice.. Under his great paintings you can find some of the original objects Mr Peto paint.. Is worth the visit and I’m grateful for the welcoming and the inspiration.
Wonderful museum! It really is like stepping back into time because the cups, chairs, books, etc are authentic and belonged to Peto. You feel like at any moment Peto could walk through the door and begin painting in his studio. Loved how throughout the museum they had paired the paintings with the exact objects that Peto had used. The level of detail was perfect. Our whole group loved every minute. Everyone there was friendly and warm, and we received so many insights during the tour. Thank you, Mary!
