🎬 Rutherfurd Hall at 1686 County Rd 517 in Hackettstown, NJ, is an 18,000-square-foot Tudor Revival mansion and National Historic Landmark, built between 1903 and 1905. This elegant country estate and its picturesque grounds are an active cultural center and museum owned by the Allamuchy Township Board of Education. Beyond its public and educational role, Rutherfurd Hall is available through an active rental program for a variety of private events and productions. The scenic location on Allamuchy Pond make it an ideal and unique backdrop for film, television, and photo shoots seeking a historic, Gilded Age, or grand manor setting. It is actively featured as a filming location in New Jersey. ★★★★★
Excellent historic mansion built in 1903 and open for tours and special events. Last night, a
Foetepianist-Danial Adam Maltz gave a recital performing pieces from Hadyn and Mozart.
Beautiful event for an appreciative crowd.
I was passing by while doing some leaf peeping and pulled into the parking lot. The grounds are lovely, and two years ago I attended a wedding at Rutherfurd Hall. I suggest you do an online search and read about the history of this building which FDR visited several times. The building is open only one afternoon per week, but the grounds are always open.
Beautiful former manor home, now part of a local school, with a lovely view of a lake and mountain ridge behind. The Hall offers tours, but wasn't open when we visited.
Rutherfurd Hall is an amazing cultural center with an amazing historical story.
This tutor-style house was designed by Whitney Warren, who later won the bid to design Grand Central Terminal. The landscape of the grounds were also designed by the Olmsted Brothers who became famous for designing/landscaping many of today's national parks.
The Rutherfurd family lived here as early as the mid-eighteenth century, and over their families time here hosted many famous titans of industry and even future American presidents. There's a really fun/interesting story about FDR and Alice Morton. Later, Rutherfurd Hall was donated to the church and used as a type of retirement home for the nuns.
Rutherfurd Hall is now owned by the Allamuchy School District who does a great job utilizing it to maintain this beautiful structure. If you go on a Wednesday, you'll be able to receive a tour through the beautiful home. Their tour guides are absolutely fantastic and know so much of the history so thoroughly it is really impressive.
Rutherfurd Hall does weddings on it's own, but a local venue David's Country Inn also holds wedding ceremonies on the grounds. I'll be having my ceremony at Rutherfurd Hall and could not be more excited!
