In May of this year, I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Richards for the first time in order to discuss my testosterone levels & possibly a vasectomy. His office staff was very polite & professional & were able to get me in withing two weeks as a new patient.
During my first visit, Dr. Richards took the time to listen to all of my concerns and answered all of my questions without rushing. He also conducted some more testing and was able to get my testosterone levels up to normal without TRT. He also explained the vasectomy process & answered all of the questions which my wife & I had. (I have been contemplating a vasectomy for 2+ years now and have cancelled my previous 2 appointments the day prior to the scheduled procedure with other doctors).
I have heard way too many negative vasectomy experiences from friend, co-workers & other people where some could not walk for days or weeks, were in unbearable pain, and had many infections & complications.
I chose to conduct my vasectomy procedure in Dr. Richard's office instead of a surgical center. When I arrived, everyone was very professional, and Dr. Richards started the procedure on time. The procedure itself was less than 30 minutes and was completely painless. Dr. Richards then explained to me on what to do next and I left the office. The next day I woke up with barely any pain and just had some minor discomfort. By 8:40am the day after the surgery Dr. Richards called to check in and answer any questions which might have come up. Then, the following day I received a text message from Dr. Richards checking in on me again. By the end of the second day after the vasectomy procedure, almost all of my swelling went away, and I did not have any pain. Most of the time during the day I even forgot that I just went through this procedure. (I did not take any pain medications after the second day).
Overall, it was a great experience, and, in my opinion, Dr. Richards is a very experienced/knowledgeable doctor and is a true professional. His office staff is also very professional & helpful and were able to get me in same days for bloodwork.
I would definitely recommend Dr. Richards to all of my family & friends!
This doctor is surgery happy!!!
Making a long story short I had a mass on my kidney since 2006. Through the years it's been monitored, Dr. Stevens associate Dr. Boateng wanted to remove the mass and my kidney. Second opinion by another Urologist was to first take a biopsy and freeze that area. Turns out it was a benign mass, which was simply frozen, with no kidney removal.
Always get a second opinion. these people love to do unneccessary surgery!!!!!!!!
Truly a gem amongst all other urology teams !
Dr Richards and staff have been great in dealing with my kidney stones. His team was very responsive when I initially came in - all very courteous and seem to enjoy working there which is very different from some other places.
This was my 3rd Urologist that I saw when seeking out assistance, most other doctors were either booked out months in advance or brushed my smaller stones off with zero compassion. Telehealth with other providers seemed like a waste of time for kidney stones
I probably spent a solid 20 minutes plus with Dr Richards on our first visit and he was a wealth of knowledge explaining how everything was working inside, and what steps we could take as far as surgery/nonsurgery etc etc - Really made me feel like I had a choice in my care !
I have had a few stone removal/blasting/stent removal procedures now with Dr Richards, both in the office as well as at the surgery center. Dr Richards himself has called me after every single procedure to see how I was doing and check on my recovery. This is the first time I have ever been called directly by the doctors instead of one of their staff and it really makes you feel taken care of instead of just a number.
Recently had a vasectomy as well and that procedure solidified my trust with the team as well as Dr Richards even further, everything went as expected with zero complications and recovery was exactly as he said it would be.
Dr Richards is also very responsive on the patient portal (its like an email app for the Doc and Patient) I regularly send updates and ask questions and he replies very quickly and with details - Not just one or two word answers.
I am very thankful that I found the team here at NJ Urology, and while I dont want to have another stone to see them all again - I know that when I do, I will be in great hands.
