I’m 27 and I fenced a bit in college and wanted to try again. I was nervous about judgement from others, but this place is very welcoming. Coach Boris made me feel welcomed and taught me things even after the group class ended at 8pm. He is very patient and shows me ways to improve my fencing. The other fencers were nice and never showed any judgement. They even taught me a thing or two about my form or how i should lunge. I highly recommend this place. I’m going to try his private lessons next month.
As someone with a boxing background, I was completely new to fencing — but Boris made the transition seamless! He is an exceptional trainer who works wonderfully with all levels, especially beginners like me! His welcoming and positive atmosphere immediately put me at ease, and he makes every lesson engaging and exciting. I couldn't have asked for a better introduction to fencing!
Cannot say enough good things about Coach Boris Paghiev! My son grew as a person and a fencer under his tutelage. If not for Boris’ instruction, my son would not be fencing in college on an NCAA team. Boris truly cares about the kids, their development and is a great communicator with parents. It’s a family environment and when my son comes home on college breaks, he loves getting back on the strips at the club! This is simply put, a terrific place.
Coach Boris is an excellent fencing coach. He works well with the children and they all seem to adore and respect him. Although his facility is small, Coach Boris works hard and takes pride in teaching our children this new skill. It was awesome to see my son and daughter take a stance and show their newly learned form. I was all smiles :). His professionalism and dedication is expressed through his hard work with the kids. Both my son and daughter are excelling and they really do like the sport. Glad we explored outside the box from the normal sports we participate in throughout the year. It's worth it.
I am a former NJ All State fencer so I know what to look for (I think) better than other parents. I think a lot of parents get bamboozled by nice facilities or other things. But, you have to be very careful and know what to look for. I know many young fencers that improved at a very slow rate mostly due to the club that they attend. Seriously.
I can tell you that Boris, the owner at Worldwide, is first a very nice guy. He's someone who will pay personal attention to your child. That's vital. But, more importantly, he's an excellent technical teacher. His emphasis on form is, in my humble opinion, the best out of all the clubs in the area. (I've tried out every club.)
I know that Boris just started this club so the club might not be bigger than others or filled with a lot students like other more established clubs but I actually think that's a very good thing. If you think about it, he will have a lot more time to pay personal attention to your child. And, that's extremely important. Over the years, I've personally seen a lot of fencers at other clubs (I won't mention them) sort of pushed to the side as the coaches focus only on the best fencers! The other fencers just stagnate and don't improve. That's totally not fair and wrong in my opinion. And, I've seen this happen all the time.
Anyway, like I said. Boris is very dedicated to form so that's extremely important to beginner fencers. I think it's probably the most important thing. My child has really improved because of it. Moreover, there is a great group of kids there who are pretty into fencing (instead of goofing off) at the same time, they appear to be having a lot of fun.
I personally interviewed every nearby club in the area so if you have questions, you can private message me. I'll be honest and tell you the good and the bad. If I notice your message, I'll respond. But, don't get mad if I don't respond right away. I don't log into Yelp that often and I might not respond for a few months!
