Breakneck Ridge Trail offers a lot for hikers. It's easily accessible via Metro North or by car, with plenty of roadside parking available. There are also porta-potties for visitor convenience. The trail is well-maintained and clearly marked. While it's challenging, it's still manageable, and climbing the rocks adds an element of fun. The views along the route are absolutely breathtaking. If the first part of the white trail feels too difficult, there are turning points to make it easier. Overall, this trail comes highly recommended!"
Best views of the Hudson valley, also one of the most difficult hikes in the Hudson valley (full loop). Can get very crowded at times, but if you venture past the flag pole the traffic lightens up substantially. Go hard or go home. If you’re in shape and exercise regularly, you could do this in 1-1.5hrs as a trail run (depending on how many stops you take to take pictures). I’d say average is 2hrs even though it says 3 hours. After a certain point some places are impossible for dogs to pass
The Breakneck Ridge Trailhead is a moderate to hard trail, depending on the route you choose. We enjoyed the White > Yellow > Blue loop, which took us about 3.5 hours at a reasonable pace in a group. The views are amazing. It wasn't too crowded, especially the yellow and blue trails. We enjoyed pocking around in the ruins and reading about the history. This is a must-do trail in the area!
a very nice place for hiking, with beautiful views of the Huson Valley and only 80 minutes away. queens. I haven't been here for a few years and I'm very pleasantly surprised, a lot of changes. The trail is very well-kept. All obstacles have been removed, cut and cleaned. All trails are well marked. There are also stairs in some places. I have spent many hours and miles in the mountains and this is the first time I have seen such a well-kept place on our coast! (maybe vt.) probably the only one. investment in our state where tax money has been used well. I suggest arriving early, around 8 a.m. or on weekdays, because it's a popular place and parking is a problem. If you don't have a car, you can take the train, which stops 0.15 miles from the trailhead. The beginning is quite demanding, stomy and a bit technical, so I recommend having shoes with good grip. when you reach the flags, the worst is behind you, don't give up at the start because it's only 0.75 miles difficult. Then it's a nice walk. I saw people with dogs, but I never checked if it's legal.if.you don't have time for catskills, adk or nh it's a good place to get away from the city.I recommend it.if you want to add 1.2 miles in.one way you can turn to bacon fire tower.good luck and enjoy hiking
This challenging trail is full of surprises. Some steps might need more than your attention to move on safely. A few times, I found my feet are slipping on the big rock without anything to hang on with. People on the trail were helpful to lend a hand.
Due to time limitation, we only finish one course. I'd like to come back and finish all courses. The views up on the lookouts are breathtaking. It's really worthwhile to get the best view in town. The trick is the back road down is easy and pleasant.
