On Sunday, February 12, 2023, I was trapped when the lift on my handicapped van stopped lifting with me halfway between the ground and the door to the van. I called AAA and the police to be told they didn’t respond to calls like this. Luckily firefighters from the Cronomer Valley Fire Department responded and rescued me from my dangerous and very chilly position. After many attempts to fix the lift, one of the Fireman arranged for his father, another Firefighter, to respond with his personal pickup truck with handicap assists on it. After driving me home, we were met by Engine 3 of the Newburgh City Fire Department who had been requested to assist. I would like to thank all the Firefighters from both departments for their assistance. I don’t know everyone involved, but I would like to thank the members of Rescue 303, the Asst Chief and the Fire Police from the Cronomer Valley Fire Department for an outstanding job.
