The church is beautiful but parking is the worst. Neighborhood people don't know how to park.
The oldest Roman Catholic Church on Staten Island!
I attended Mass here for the first time last Sunday. St. Peter’s is the mother parish of Staten island and is also the oldest Roman Catholic church in the borough. I found the building to be very inspiring. Newer churches are not built like this anymore and the building is truly a sight to behold. Even if it may need some minor renovations and upkeep.
The church appears to be in need of parishioners. Attendance was sparse and sincerely I hope more Catholics re-discover this parish. There is only one Mass every Sunday at noon with confessions available before Mass starting at 11AM.
The Mass was done with reverence by Fr. Jerome, and the music and organ was also very nice. The indoor acoustics and sound system are a bit echo'y and the liturgy was a bit hard to hear I think because of all the fans running. I’m sure it’s easier to hear in the cooler months without the fans.
Overall, I was very moved and impressed with this church and I don't often see churches that are 124 years old. I hope more people start coming here and this is the most beautiful church on Staten Island in my humble opinion.
My husband and I got married this past December at St. Peters. The best way to describe our ceremony was magical. Everyone at St. Peters from Denise, the Office Manager, Sally, the Music Director, and, of course, Father Jerome, made our wedding so personal and perfect. Although St. Peters was not my childhood parish, they welcomed me with open arms and made the process seamless. My favorite part of the ceremony was the music. The music ministry is just absolutely spectacular!! All of our music was hand selected with the help of Sally's guidance. I cannot say enough about this parish to show our satisfaction and appreciation! This church should certainly be receiving more attention from future brides.
We were visiting from Orlando and we wanted to pray and see this church. We missed the mass that was celebrated hours ago and the doors were locked. However, the very kind and hospitable volunteer, George, heard our attempts to open the doors and he let us in. He turned on the altar and other lights for us. This is a beautiful Catholic church. May the good Lord continue to bless His people 🙏😇.
