Nina did an amazing job on my box braids! They look great even after a month. Can't wait to get the next braids. Thank you, Nina!
Mist was my stylist she colored my hair and did a rod set. She is very professional and does an excellent job. I appreciate her level of experience and feel she really knows what she’s doing.
This was my daughter's first salon experience, and it couldn't have gone better. Kania was so patient and gentle with her, which I truly appreciated especially since my daughter is pretty tender-headed. She got a wash, deep condition, a trim, and braids, and she absolutely loves how it turned out. Thank you for making her feel comfortable and confident. We'll definitely be back!
I am sad to leave this review, but I would not recommend coming into Toal Beauty for any chemical treatments. I have been getting my 4C hair, relaxed for about five years. I had a great stylist that I loved, but after moving to another state, I had to find a new hairdresser. In comes Total Beauty Salon, who I thought would be trustworthy from the positive reviews, higher pricing level, and certifications on the website.
My first appointment was Shetalia, the owner, and I didn’t have any negative experience with her. The only thing I noted was that the process was very slow, and it took about 3X as long to get the treatment done than with my other stylist. This wasn’t a problem for me as long as the results were good and my hair health was maintained.
We retouched the relaxer three separate times, a few months apart as per her recommendation. My third retouch at this location is where things went wrong. They booked me in with a different stylist (Misty). Within the appointment, she kept commenting how my hair seemed to be breaking as she was washing out the relaxer. They asked me if I had changed my diet or medication, but I let them know that nothing had changed about my routine. I didn’t think much of it, but within two weeks of getting the relaxer retouch, I noticed that my hair was falling out. I’ve included photos here of what things looked like just a few weeks after the appointment. I called in and explained the situation and they tried to remedy it. They called me back in for an emergency appointment and gave me some protein and hydration treatments. They also gave me a free set of extensions.
My next few appointments after that were heavily discounted, and they maintained my extensions and continued to give me a free hair breakage treatments. However, even though this slowed down the breakage, it didn’t stop it completely. After a month of treatments to stabilize the breakage, I decided to get knotless box braids in an attempt to stop combing and manipulating my hair. I paid full price (about $250) and still came to this salon, in attempts to be consistent. The braids didn’t turn out like the photo I had shown and took a very long time— about 12 hours— but overall the experience with the braider was okay.
Now, after I’ve taken the box braids out, it’s the first time that I’ve been confronted with what’s truly left of my hair. As you can see in the photos, 90% of my hair has broken off right at the line of demarkation with only new growth left. Of course, I haven’t relaxed my hair ever since the severe breakage began and don’t plan to anytime soon (if ever again).
This experience been very upsetting and traumatic as I’ve never had short hair in my entire life. My wedding is coming up in just a couple of months. I’ve been working for the last 3 years closely with my previous out-of-state hairstylist to grow my hair out past shoulder length before my wedding and had made really great progress despite being relaxed.
Now, there’s nothing left to do but get a big chop, 5 months before my wedding day.
I do give credit to the salon for trying their best to remedy the problem, but in the end they were solving an issue that they created themselves. No amount of 20% off protein treatments can bring back years of hair growth overnight…and going from a long bob to a pixie without any choice in the matter is a lot on one’s self esteem.
I really hope that no one else has to suffer hair loss like this. As much as I hate to put a stain on a local small business, I would hate even more for somebody else to go through this because there was no warning.
The young lady does it alll!!!! My hair was very tough and unmanageable. We decided to do a big chop and my Natural hair can be combed through without a fight. By the way, she gives you any style you ask for and make sure your natural hair is being well taken care of. I been going to hee for 3 years and very happy with my outcome every time. Must go too. And of course great prices. If you have somewhere to go she also have lipstick, lashes and bonnets on deck!!! One stop shop, be ready to slay. Hope you enjoy some of my pics.
