Open MRI are not as open as people think. The difference is: of you are not on the long regular MRI machine, then the Radiologist's have to protect your head. Therefore, a football helmet along with a catchers MASK is almost always going to be put on over your face/head making it a bit more claustrophobic than described and anticipated. They show in the brochure the stand up MRI machine and the sit down MRI, a relaxing time to look at TV. They do not explain or show the head gear on and then looking at the TV in front of you as if it was super relaxing. I'm sorry to say, I have tried at least 3 times to go to the Open, Standing, MRI's. I never go through with it. I do however, find the regular lay down MRI machine a lot more comfortable. Also, regardless of which machine you choose, be sure to get an anti-anxiety medication from your doctor. I was really surprised that I was able to go through 45 to 55 minutes (with and with out contrast) a regular MRI. Without that anxiety med and the relaxing cool Jazz that was on my headphones, I couldn't have done it without that. Also, bring a friend or a loved one that does not cause you anxiety usually. This way you have a positive person near you. If you need them too, you can have them stay in the room with you. I opted out of anyone other than the staff staying in the room with me. Only because I know how annoying that noise is on the MRI machine. I would hate for someone to have to sit through that. However, if you absolutely must, it's good to have a friend. Also, I was so, so loopy from the anti anxiety meds that I was glad I was not alone.

Everyone was nice. Its a busy doctors office environment however its clean and the staff even though under stress was very friendly. I cant believe the negative reviews, people forget that at the end of the day your dealing with other human beings that are busy at work, give them a bit of a break.
