Belden House & Mews

Our stay at The Belden was disappointing from beginning to end and honestly left us wondering how it maintains such high ratings, or a Michelin Key. The property seems severely understaffed, and many of the staff who were present looked disheveled and disengaged. Organization was clearly lacking. It felt like one hand didn’t know what the other was doing. We passed multiple staff members during our stay who didn’t even offer a smile or greeting. Valet service was nowhere to be found, and parking was limited. We ended up unloading our own car. The “butler service” never appeared. To their credit, the room itself was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. It is also within walking distance to shops and downtown area. Unfortunately, the walls were paper thin in the room of the Mews so we could hear full conversations and even someone using the restroom next door. When we tried to visit the bathhouse, the lights and computer were on but no staff were anywhere to be found. We would have loved room service or breakfast but neither were available until late in the morning. We were looking forward to checking out, which is disappointing. Upon checkout, we discovered several unauthorized charges on our bill for items we didn’t purchase or consume. Once again, disorganized. We had to load our own car, and then after check out back out of the driveway out front because another car was blocking the entrance all night & staff couldn’t locate the owner. Overall, our experience felt overpriced, unprofessional, and underwhelming. What was presented and what we received were two very different things. The Belden may have the aesthetic of a luxury inn, but the service and management were far from it.

Rooms are nice and generally well done. Issue is the housekeeping is awful and you ask for things and they aren't done and then take hours to be taken care of. For example, we asked for the couch to be made into a bed at turndown. Came back, it wasn't done and there were no linens to do ourself. Took over an hour for them to find someone to do it and get it done... Housekeeping doesn't do simple things like empty the trash or refresh water. Location is good but extremely noisy from street and other noise and from other rooms which is not common with hotels trying to charge these kinds of rates.

A beautiful and elegant inn in the heart of New England! Walking distance to Litchfield restaurants and shops. We stayed in Belden House for two nights and Mews for three nights. Both were spectacular. We enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend Belden House and Mews.

Enjoyed an amazing dinner here with my father. The food is crafted with the same love and attention that their staff provides to the guests. The entire property is beautiful with every amenity one could hope for. We could not have been happier with our evening, so do yourself a favor and book a reservation as soon as possible!

Last night was our second time dining at Belden House, and once again, it was a wonderful experience. The menu had been updated to highlight seasonal ingredients which made for some pretty exceptional dishes. The peach appetizer and the cod were definite standouts!
While the portions are on the smaller side, each plate is packed with flavor. I recommend ordering a variety to share - which is a perfect way to explore more of the menu. . Service was attentive and efficient from start to finish. We’ll absolutely be back!
