Went to Garden State Tavern on Saturday. The food was fantastic. I had the Garden State Burger and it was cooked just the way I like it. The drinks were great too. I had the margarita flight with 4 different flavors. They also had live music and the Christmas decorations were festive. Also, our server George was friendly and attentive. I'll definitely be back.
We were excited to try this new place, as we frequently came to Brooks Tap house, but we were really disappointed. The food was below average. The mozzarella nuggets had no cheese inside. The sauce on the pizza was sour and my husband’s steak was dry and overcooked. We could have overlooked the food quality to an extent had the service had not been terrible. Not sure if it was by virtue of where we were seated (back corner of the back room), however the service was neglectful at best. I had asked for a second glass of wine, which did not arrive until I had asked another waiter. We had ordered dessert, and our waiter never cleared our dinner plates (and it did not seem like he knew that he should). It took nearly 40 minutes to get our dessert after ordering. It was nearly impossible to get anyone’s attention. When we finally got our desserts, we had to ask for extra silverware. We also had to get ketchup from another table. All in all, we were there for nearly 2 hours and the restaurant was not overly busy. The restaurant has some potential, but with so many good restaurants in the area, we would be unlikely to return.
Giving thanks to the GS Tavern for making my family's Thanksgiving a wonderful time. It was our first time there so I was a little nervous, but when I walked in and saw the way they had decorated for the holiday, I knew I picked the right place. My 100 year old mother and her sister, my husband and my cousins all got to be together and enjoy a fantastic meal. Ashley was our server and she was terrific. My husband said there was not one thing on the huge menu that he did not want to try. We ordered Caesar salads, pot stickers and perogies and shared. Our entrees were cooked to perfection, steak, salmon, stuffed pork chop and a burger for mom. Ashley was concerned that only 3 bites of the hamburger were eaten, but my mom eats like a bird and she really did enjoy it. I'm sure the Blue Moon filled her up. We will definitely be back to sample the rest of the menu. Huge tank you to all.
Was excited to try this place- love the Jersey theme! My mom can’t eat gluten and was excited to try the gluten free mozzarella sticks- they were really good! She also thought her gluten free pizza was pretty good, not great. The crust had an herby taste, kind of like focaccia.
I realize they’re brand new and ironing out the kinks, so I wanted to give some feedback. I got the Four Seasons sampler as my meal- it comes with chicken tenders, cheesesteak egg rolls, mozzarella nuggets, and pierogies. The cheesesteak egg rolls and mozzarella nuggets were good, but the chicken fingers were inedible- dry, overcooked, and had a weird oil smell/taste. The pierogies had a strange flavor and I didn’t enjoy them. They have a lot of gluten free options (mozzarella sticks, pizza, pasta, bread, peanut butter pie, maybe more) but it kind of defeats the purpose of all that when something as simple as the fries aren’t gluten free. My mom ordered the Italian hot dog and about 10 minutes after we ordered our server came back to tell her she can’t eat the fries that come on it. He said it’s more than cross contamination, the fries themselves actually have gluten. It’s so unnecessary to add gluten to fries, please strongly consider changing this!
This review would have been a 3 under normal circumstances, but like I said, I know they just opened and things take time. Wishing them the best and hope they listen to customer feedback!
I really enjoyed the atmosphere and fun Jersey menu! Plenty of options for whatever you're in the mood for! Was there on Opening night and opted for the Trenton Tomato Pie, which was crisp and the sauce was great! I had the Mac and Cheese Mania as my main, love having the breadcrumbs, delish! Rounded off with the Reese's peanut butter pie which was a perfect way to end my meal! Tasted the Jersey Blue-Misu and was a fabulous non-coffee take on Tiramisu.
Lots of local drafts available too! Go check it out but make sure you're hungry!
