There is so much good to share about this school.

My son has been training here for 3 years. The coaches are exactly as they should be, tough and unrelenting while being very nurturing. The class atmosphere is serious but maintains a lightness where spontaneous bursts of laughter are common place. The last 10 minutes of the kids classes are spent playing games which the children absolutely love!!!

Kids leave class tired and sweaty. The expectation from the coaches is that you work. They make it very clear that it is hard and doesn’t come easy but that it won’t come at all if you don’t work. Children are treated with great respect and made to feel important but certainly no one is handled with white gloves.

The coaches that work with children have their own kids in the program and their kids all grind in the mix like everyone else.This is not a place where the coaches shamelessly favor certain students. Coaches show interest in the kid’s lives outside of the gym and are very encouraging of all of the their activities.

There is no hokeyness here. This is a humble, honest school. They don’t rely on their pedigree to dazzle you. There is no indoctrination, no mantras, no bowing to pictures of random people and they don’t peddle merch on you. The only expectation is that you own 1 school Gi that fits, beyond that you can wear which ever Gi you wish.

We love these guys and hope to be with them for many years to come! We wish them great success as the continue to grow. 🤙🏼

Hillsborough BJJ is an exceptional place to train, whether you’re completely new to jiu-jitsu or a seasoned practitioner. The coaching is knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely invested in every student’s progress. They do an excellent job breaking down techniques in a way that’s easy to understand, and they create an atmosphere where questions are always welcome.

The training environment is one of the friendliest and most supportive I’ve experienced. Students look out for each other, rolls stay controlled and respectful, and there’s a strong sense of community both on and off the mats. The gym is clean, well-organized, and equipped with everything you need for solid training.

I’ve been training at Hillsborough BJJ for five years, and it’s been an incredible experience. Henry is not only extremely knowledgeable but also genuinely cares about each student’s progress, always taking the time to give personal guidance. The environment is very welcoming and supportive, and I’ve made some great friends along the way. It’s a place where you can grow both on and off the mats. If you’re looking for a great BJJ gym that will challenge you to elevate your game I’d highly recommend coach Henry’s establishment. If you’ve never done any martial arts or even considering BJJ for the first time than I’d recommend this gym for you. The culture is very supportive regardless of belt level or experience, higher belts regularly assist lower belts and are challenged themselves to reach for the next level. It’s an awesome place for kids as well as coach Henry focuses on the developmental aspect of the sport.

Dropped into Hillsborough BJJ twice while visiting family in town (once by myself and once with my wife) and was welcomed with some great NO GI and GI instruction and rolls. Everyone at the gym was welcoming and more than willing to help with everything. Professor Henry is very knowledgable and can break down some complicated techniques and make it easy to understand. If you are looking for a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym in town or are just in town for a visit, I highly recommend Hillsborough BJJ!
