Laurie taught both of my children. She really knows how to connect with her students. She gets inside their heads and figures out what will motivate them. Her “piano party” recitals are full of joy. Highly recommend.
Laurie approaches teaching children to play piano in a much different way than piano teachers I had growing up. Instead of focusing on technique and repetition, like practicing scales and finger exercises with a metronome, Laurie focuses on finding out what the child might be drawn to when it comes to playing piano. Maybe a kid might want to learn their favorite pop songs or songs from movies they love. Maybe a kid might be interested in jazz over classical. Maybe a kid wants to write their own music. Laurie does a wonderful job of making piano lessons targeted to what the child will find interesting and enjoyable. She certainly teaches technique but the primary focus is music!
When your child makes real music with a piano for the first time, there is an "aha!" moment. They light up with a feeling of accomplishment and the knowledge that they are not just pressing keys but using an instrument to express their interpretation of a piece of music that means something to them.
This is what I love so much about how Laurie teaches: my kids found a real love of music and expression and, along the way, learned how to play piano!
I’m so glad we found Laurie! After taking piano lessons myself for over a decade and competing nationally, I’ve been searching for a teacher with a strong, well-rounded curriculum—and Laurie is it. She’s the first piano teacher I’ve found in the area who truly prepares students to master their craft.
Both of my children are her students and absolutely love their time with her. Laurie is patient, fun, and intentional, always guiding them to learn and enjoy the process. She even encourages them to compose their own music—a creative, engaging way to learn theory (and much more fun than how I was taught!).
My oldest has had a few other teachers, but Laurie stands out. I can clearly see the difference in her skills and confidence—Laurie is leading her toward true music mastery.
If you are looking for a piano teacher for yourself or your child, I highly recommend Laurie!
My son has been taking piano with Laurie for about a year and my youngest son will begin taking lessons with her in the fall. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Laurie as a person and teacher. My son never complains about going to lessons, in fact, he looks forward to them. His piano playing has improved greatly and I am so impressed when I hear him practicing. She is patient, friendly, and her home is warm and inviting. Highly recommend!
I’ve been taking piano lessons with Laurie for over a year now. As an adult learner, she’s been incredibly helpful on my musical journey. Under her guidance, I finally achieved my long-held dream of learning Chopin nocturnes. Laurie doesn’t just teach piano; she helps you connect with the music on a deeper level. I highly recommend her lessons.
