From the several relatively short conversations I had with Dr. Itani it was apparent that he is intelligent, knowledgeable, experienced and confident. These are just a few of the foundations required for a competent surgeon. I was lucky enough to have Dr. Itani stroll into the room at just the right moment when my 15 year old daughters ultrasound was being performed. An enflamed appendix with accumulation at the distal end flashed in and out of the screen and Dr. Itani and myself both saw it at the same time. Even though the technician and the radiologist missed this vital bit of information during the first ultrasound Dr. Itani did not. He examined her abdomen and made a decisive diagnosis. The first ultrasound after being read by the radiologist did not find enflamed appendix. The radiologist insisted on a CT scan for my 15 year old daughter yet because of the initial and competent work of Dr. Itani I insisted on another ultrasound with a more experienced technician to help avoid unnecessary radiation exposure to my daughters reproductive organs. The second ultrasound showed a dilated appendix. I knew I wanted Dr. Itani performing surgery on my daughter and moved her over to Newton Hospital for an early morning surgery. We met his with his team in the pre-operative area the next morning and this gem of a man operated on my precious daughter quickly and accurately. He was in and out of her abdomen in less than 30 minutes saving her from prolonged anesthesia. She is now recovering well, and I am beyond grateful for the entire experience with Dr. Itani. In a surgeon you need confidence, competence, intelligence, knowledge, and experience. Dr. Itani has all of those qualities and then some.
