From entry, we were greeted warmly by our waitress Des. When seated, with ease and familiarity, she told us the best options for us on the menu. Though they didn't have Reisling at the moment she suggested white Sangria, that was simply delicious. Now for the food every suggestion was delicious from the Staple Tacos, Jerk Chicken Empanadas, Vegetable Medley, Lamb Chops and Stuffed Salmon. In summary, we'll be back. OKO is everything they say they are.
Our waitress mimi was so beautiful. The food and atmosphere is always a vibe. If you haven't been here what are you wanting for. If you love good food and good people come to oko. You would have thought we was there with a few people because the service was still great and they were about to close. I wasn't rushed the service was great and the oxtail empanads. I will advise you not to get them. They will have you hooked. I love supporting my people. Definitely a vibe.
I love supporting Black-owned businesses and this one I would definitely give a four out of five.
The food options were wide and everything was tasty in the Sunday brunch menu. As someone who hasn’t had very good experiences with African food or African restaurants, this one was definitely a standout.
The service overall was okay. At opening time they were still preparing and setting up so we waited a little bit, but everything turned out nice. The owner came out and took some pictures and a video of the buffet. He was VERY NICE and gave us suggestions on how to make seafood tacos 🌮 from the buffet.
The atmosphere was great. The only thing I would mention is that there was a heavy smell of bleach that caused a bit of a sinus flare for me so I had to sit close to the exit. After I left, I didn’t feel too great and that’s the only reason keeping me from returning. 🥹
2024: Sat at the bar. 1st the good. The food, drinks and wait staff are terrific.
Perfectly Fried Snapper (Our crispy deep fried mouthwatering snapper). Pleasantly surprised by their take on the beef taco. Love the "The Aunt" (Amaretto, Irish Crème, Coffee Liqueur and Aromatic Bitters). And you gotta try Fried Basa Bites (Perfectly fried in our house batter served with our house bang bang sauce).
Now the not so good. It tough to get a reservation. This is an out growth from the owners (a really great guy) catering business now conducted in a brick & mortar. My suggestion is to just show up in the hopes that there is space at the bar. This place is well worth it.
