The Texier House can be visited during the twice a month open houses, usually the 1st and 3rd Sunday ,where volunteer guides can show you around or you can wander through the 5 rooms and read the descriptions of memorabilia about Watchung past and current residents and places.
For example: Adella (Tibby)Wotherspoon, the youngest (then 6 months old) survivor or the Sinking of the General Slocum in 1904 where 1,021of the 1,331 passengers died in the NYC’s East River. Tibby lived most of her life in Watchung and was active in the Watchung Historical Commission which maintains and staffs the Texier House Museum.
You can learn about Watchung lake which used be the source for a regional ice cutting business and then became a popular swim club.
Great museum! It is set up with love and care and you can tell that the folks that work there really love what they do. If you are a fan of history, you really need to go - although, there is something for everyone; art, war, local flavor. So glad my family and I stopped by! Thank you!!!
Great place with wonderful history of Watchung.
