We go to The Rail every so often, usually on Tuesdays for T-Bone Tuesday. The steak itself is good, but lately they’ve had a hard time getting the temperature right. We ordered it rare on our last visit and it came out closer to medium.
The mashed potatoes are delicious, and the salads are always fresh. The drinks are good as well. We prefer sitting at the bar, but it’s small, so sometimes we end up at a high-top instead.
Overall, it’s a solid spot with good food, and we just hope the steak temperatures become more consistent.
First time guest here, alone for lunch so sat at the bar, greeted nicely by Karen the bartender, what a delight she is. I'm a French Onion soup fanatic so I started with that, (I should be the Dave Portnoy of F.O. Soups lol), it was very tasty and the char on top was wonderful. Next I wanted a burger, asked her for suggestions, she loves the horseradish burger which sounded yummy, then said The Rail burger is quite popular, so I opted for that. It was absolutely delicious! Cooked Med-Rare, with crispy bacon. 😋 I'll definitely stop back in again to try their pork chops which I hear are outstanding. Thank you Karen! Murph from Branchburg.
Tonight on the way home from @PeddlersVillage , the @OldPubClub found another establishment, in #WhitehouseStation , that has been around longer than us. This building was built in 1845 and opened for business in 1846 as the Union Hotel when the Central Railroad of New Jersey first came to Readington.
After the hotel closed, the building became a the home to several restaurants throughout the years. The location was called Flamingo’s when the television show “Kitchen Nightmares” came in and rebranded the place and named it The Junction. Chef Gordon Ramsey helped revamp the restaurant. By calling it The Rail, they are honoring the railroad theme, being in this historic building, so close to the tracks. With its mix of great cocktails, service and delicious dishes, it’s a must stop if you are in the area. @TheRailNJ #TheRail #OldPubClub #OPC
The Rail was a surprise for me and a guest. Large portions served just in time and most important it was super hot from the kitchen. We both enjoyed our meal along with attentive service. Reservation a good idea as the place fills up quickly. Good work to have the kitchen spot on!
