VanderPlaat in Fair Lawn has served our family since 1990. They are very professional, organized and kind. All the people who work there anticipate our needs and met them before we even asked. Lisa Caggiano, guided us through the entire process smoothly and answered many questions as they came up. Since there were eight siblings, differences of opinions were negotiated and all went well. Our experience with the Van Platt Colonial Home was excellent and our mother's wake and funeral were perfect. Our funeral director Stephanie's professionalism, empathy, and patience eased the task of many decisions in an emotional time of great sadness.
Once the preliminary choices were made we were extremely happy with the grounds, the lovely renovated interior, and the screens and technology that allowed us to set up a room full of pictures, videos, and flowers arranged to our wishes. Most importantly and a huge concern was how Mom would look, and the attention with which Mom was taken care of, and the compliance to our requests were evident. She looked beautiful.
The entire staff was a source of comfort on the day of the funeral as they guided our steps through the church and burial.
We believe our mother's funeral was everything she would have hoped for and we couldn't have been more pleased.
Though we did not need it, the private family area downstairs deserves a mention as it reflects the attention to the home's detail and caring. It is a large space distanced from the main rooms and great for those who may have young children or family members in need of a break.
In a nutshell, the experience was wonderful and we would highly recommend Van Plaat's. To Stephanie and the entire Van Platt staff a heartfelt thank-you for helping us honor our mother in a beautiful way.

About a year ago we very suddenly had to make final arrangements for my mother-in-law. This was the first time I had been through the entire process myself and the entire team at Vander Plaat was really incredible and they know their craft. As the family member making arrangements for a loved one, you are heavily distracted (and traumatized) by the loss you are dealing with. However my recollection from this time highlight how professional everyone at Vander Plaat was and they were so supportive at a time when me and my family really needed details explained simply and repetitively. I recommend them for anyone needing their services!

Lisa handled the initial arrangements of the wake and memorial service for my wife who was cremated. She covered all the details and, when I stated that I would write the obituary, gave me an excellent tip sheet. The obituary was posted promptly in the morning after being submitted very late into the night.

Stephanie handled the wake and the service and did an outstanding job. Friendly and accommodating. She met us ahead of time to set up for the chapel, worked with my niece so that her slide show would project on all the screens, and offered excellent suggestions for displaying my wife’s art work. The entire wake and memorial service was a superb tribute to my wife.

It’s been a month now and I’m still getting compliments about the service there. I couldn’t have asked for better and highly recommend them!
