Over the weekend I walked the trails in the park in Springfield Gardens, Queens. I liked how the city fades fast and you’re on long, almost deserted paths. In spots it feels truly wild—few people, brush along the edges, big open views. No frills, just walking and the wind, which is exactly what I wanted. And it’s still within the city, so getting there was easy. The trails are straightforward, easy to keep a steady pace and loop around. A solid place to clear your head and feel a bit off-the-grid without leaving town.
I often take photos of airplanes there. You can get close to various airplanes from different countries. The only bad thing is that there are a lot of mosquitoes there.
Idlewild park is a very good park for watching planes. It is right next to a school, however as long as you are not filming the school and are not on school property, you should be alright. You will see traffic landing on runway 22R. This spot is recommended for afternoon until evening due to the sun setting in the west. In the summer season, there are more trees, but in the winter, there is an unobstructed view of the traffic arriving.
Cricket and fun together. Have best views and practice place . Only evening time little hard because of the bugs.
Wonderful place for idling your hectic day! Enjoy spotting planes.
