Pawling Free Library

A very small library without a specific reading room. Space designated for teens and children but none specifically for quiet study. There are two small, and welcoming, "wings", alcoves really, just as one enters. On the right, cozy looking with two soft armchairs. On the left a big round table with seating for 5 or 6, a non-functional brick & mortor fire place, spindle-back chairs, and a couple of nice pictures hung. This is where I chose to sit to read and make notes. Dishearteningly, it is in direct ear-shot of the circulation / reference desk and the staff make no effort to carry on their continous socializing with hushed voices. When I was a child, hushed voices were library etiquette written in stone. Unfortunately that is not the rule anymore. It is not just here, but in most libraries. Libraries have become places to socialize rather than for serious study and quiet contemplation.

Well stocked with a great selection of books. Whatever books they don't have that you need can be ordered from other branches and delivered within days. Also dozens of non-book resources that are invaluable

Very pleased with the librarian clerk! I usually love to go here on sundays due to a busy work schedule. I became frustrated and stressed when I could not find a certain book, but the young lady helped me right away.

Great library if you want a book and they do not have it they have a great system and will get it from another library free of charge and they have classes for cooking, painting, relaxation methods and much more
