I attended a college open house with my daughter today, and it was an exceptional experience. I was surprised by the number of parents and aspiring students at this event. This was my fourth visit, and I must say that this college has much more to offer than I had previously thought. The new president has a unique, down-to-earth personality, which is refreshing. It’s no wonder this college ranks among the top 10 public colleges and eighth in the nation for liberal arts.
I strongly encourage all high school students and their parents to visit this college with an open mind. Ask questions and explore the wide range of curriculum options and opportunities available, as well as the beautiful, open campus environment. Best of luck!
I had the privilege of watching the Ethical Culture Fieldston School win the NYSAIS High School championship on the SUNY Purchase College field. The turf field itself is magnificent and is the equivalent of any Division 3 college. It has approximately 10 rows of seats for fans around the 1st to 3rd base lines, a good Press box with live announcements, and real dugouts for the teams. In addition, it has enclosed bullpens for pitchers and catchers and a scoreboard. It is wonderful especially for High School teams.
In the Fall of 1980 I attended SUNY at Purchase and it was like being in another world. All my life I continually yearned to be at this college because going there was the right choice. The people at this college accepted me for who I am and not,"who I am supposed to be". Where I live now,the people have high expectations of me and constantly expect too much saying that my career just isn't good enough. At Purchase, I worked for CIR and I could take my learning step by step. A liberal minded college makes me feel free. I would also read much of Sigmund Freud and this opened my eyes to a world I had never known. No, I don't want to go to San Diego or Arizona or even Florida. I consider Purchase my second home. Someday I would like to go back to Purchase and work at CIR, Center for Industrial Resources, in my senior years.
