The highest peak in Orange County offering some majestic views.

Having lived on the northeast side of the mountain for years, before moving to Taylor Rd for nearly a decade after; I think this mountain is just magic.

Trailhead parking is limited and potholed. Trailhead itself is impassable due to poison ivy overwhelming the path. If you get to past the first 300 feet of poison ivy, you'll find mainly rolling pastures with a wooded swamp section abutting the tracks. Do not keep small dogs off-leash as there are coyotes and raptors frequenting the fields. Access to Schunnemunk Mountain itself, is via illegally crossing the Metro North track line. The MTA spent a lot of money on new fencing and signage to deter crossings. FYI and may the odds be ever in you favor.

Great trail be careful if hiking after a big rain storm can get VERY muddy. Huge hill to start, be ready for it. Parking can be a challenge on busy days

First time at this trail. Parking lot was easy enough to find. GPS takes you right to it. Finding the actual trailhead was a different story. After some time I found the entrance. Trail is overgrown and unmaintained (long pants!!). The trail is marked well enough with color metal disk's. Trail I took led me to the Metro north track's!! Don't cross the tracks, active train's passing. Area around tracks not fenced. Found out later this side of the park is being close for that very reason. Hope to try the other side soon. I don't recommend this hike.

Great hike, little difficult but we blazed through it so if you take your time it shouldn’t be too bad. Wonderful view at the top. Great mix of terrain - plains, woods, rocks, steep areas. Just keep going, it’s worth it!!
