The support staff and techs here are PHENOMENAL! They make you feel like you just stopped by with their best friend. I have been here with every one of our pets and they are always so sweet to them. Dr. Hexter is my favorite veterinary doctor there. He is thorough, empathetic and straightforward. I really enjoyed our visit with him today and think I will start taking all the boys to see him. I came for a second opinion on one of my cats and he sure gave it to me! I left feeling at ease and we'll informed - sometimes a major feat when your pets are sick. My only wish is I wish they had emergency hours. I wouldnt have to go anywhere else. Maybe some day! It would be great to have an emergency vet closer to home. Thanks VCA Orange County - keep up the great work!
I love this clinic and the staff! I brought in a cat with several special circumstances, and the entire staff was extremely patient with all my questions. They even gave me a follow up call the next day. I highly recommend this veterinarian.
Disappointing: I used a VCA last year in Kalamazoo/Portage Mi. That VCA was fantastic. I made an appt online with notes for reason of our visit. I have a long hairred cat who needs yearly shave but is too aggressive for a groomer. Got text asking for records.. Portage sent them over. Day of appt we drive over. Receptionist asks if records sent over I said yes.. She looks at computer and says records there. We had very short wait. Dr comes in and seems unprepared. Tells me they are having issues with staff and me they cant shave him. He does "wellness exam" and we are done. Worst part is this "wellness exam" was close to $100. I let them know I was disappointed with the communication. Had they read my notes/ been prepared I would of just cancelled and found a different vet.... They gave him a lot of toys for being a new patient which was nice
I have been using VCA since 2018 when I was seeking a second opinion on a skin issue for a dog and I haven’t left since. I have had 6 pets come through here (5 dogs and 1 cat). I have also used their boarding services multiple times. I would use them over and over again. Prices are reasonable, they do not pressure you to spend money, appointments are convenient, care club is worth the cost.
I credit this practice, and especially, Dr. Hexter, with saving my Great Dane’s life. Last week we came in with a simple gastric upset complaint but Dr. Hexter was concerned about her heart and immediately sent us to a higher level of care where she ultimately crashed and nearly died. She needed 4 days inpatient in that hospital in order for her to live. Fortunately, because of Dr. Hexter’s clinical skills and quick recommendations she was able to be diagnosed (Addison’s Disease), treated, and will make a full recovery. Through the whole ordeal he was available by phone to answer questions and follow up with me multiple times. When it didn’t seem she would make it he was compassionate and caring. The support staff, especially Donna and Nicole, are always very professional and were also compassionate through this crisis. They offered kind words and thoughtfulness when it didn’t seem my dog would pull through. When her condition turned around for the better they were all just as excited for us as we were.
This practice could have easily just taken my money for all kinds of testing but instead of nickel-and-diming me, they just wanted what was medically best for my pet which was intensive care hospitalizationn.
A similar circumstance happened in 2020 with another Great Dane. While that dog could not be saved Dr. Shanker was available by his personal cell phone and offered genuineness and support through her crisis as well.
In 2021, my husky needed to be euthanized and we used VCA for this. Again, the staff was so compassionate and took care of all of his cremation arrangements as well as hair and paw print keepsakes.
If you are looking for a vet that will genuinely care about you and your pets as if they were their own try VCA Orange County.
I am going to have to give some love to this place. It is right by my house, so I went with my little dog. I had to make the horrible decision to put him down due to his old age and suffering, and I was terrified about how things would go. I did not want him to suffer. I did not want the staff to be apathetic and too business. I have never put down an animal, so I Googled what to expect. The team here exceeded expectations. They quickly went through the needed procedure. I was able to pay before my baby went to sleep, they gave him to me all wrapped up before they gave the injection, and they allowed me to sit in a grieving room and say my last goodbye. He was sleeping within 30 seconds of the injection. The staff talked softly to me during the process and gave their condolences. They were super compassionate. I worked in a hospital, and I have seen practitioners show less grace to grieving humans than these people showed to me. I am grateful for the care they gave to my baby and me, and I felt like I could say goodbye with respect and dignity. Thank all of you. You were great.
