We went there to update IDs for my husband, retired disabled vet and myself, while updating his youngest's school status.
In order to get the area where they issue passes to move around campus, you have to walk through a GIFT SHOP. Apparently Disney has taken over the training of our up and coming Army officers!
Upon arriving, there are signs informing each visitor to take a number for each person, for service. Thank God they weren't busy or they may not have spoken to us at all. Two men sat at individual desks awaiting their next visitor. No smile, no welcome just a hand out expecting something from me. They said one thing, as if I was wasting their time, "Did you fill out the application?"
"For what?" I responded. Mind you, there was NO ONE ELSE IN THE WAITING AREA!
Finally he said, "for a pass."
Their attitude made us question our own citizenship. It's the West Point Campus, not a nuclear arms production site.
The application for a pass feels like a lot of work when a QR code would allow us to move the entire process ahead most efficiently. After filling out the application, they trade us a handwritten pass for our application.
Then, when we asked them to direct us to the CAC/ID office, this, apparently was a bridge too far. We showed them the map we had been handed when we first arrived, asking for more specifics. The instructions led us to believe we had many miles to go.
Honestly, I dont have time to detail the apathy we encountered when dealing with the individuals who are literally in positions to interface with visitors.
Once we found the office where we were supposed to handle our business, we were well taken care of - and on our way in exactly the time allotted for our appointments.
When we weren't lost or frustrated, we took time to look at the campus and witness the coming end of autumn.
However, our frustration was so high, we have no thought of going back.
I have nothing more to add.
Great tour, highly recommend!
I took the basic tour and highly recommend it. The guide was knowledgeable and entertaining without making himself the star of the tour. Comfortable bus drove onto the Academy grounds and we spent over an hour visiting the cadet chapel, the plain, trophy point, and more. Time provided to walk around under supervision of the guide. Well worth the money.
I went to this historical tour with my family the Saturday after thanksgiving. The tour guide seemed very experienced in this subject as he was able to answer all of my groups questions. The bus we were riding around in was fairly comfortable and overall it was entertaining despite the fact that it could be a tad bit more interactive.
Did the bus tour out of here of the West Point campus. Everything there is so impressive and so beautiful. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. We learned so much about the buildings themselves, the history of the school and how it related to the history of the US Army. Would highly recommend!
