The Pantry has been open for more than 40 years. I've been going there for well over a decade, and have never been disappointed by the experience. This is a restaurant/kitchen and home goods store. The food is fantastic. You can eat in or order to go; they also run a fabulous catering business. Chef and co-owner Keith Bisciotti is a wonder; innovative, and always on the search for sourcing the best ingredients and creating the next delicious dish. There are soups, sandwiches, salads, and more. All the baked goods are house-made, including seven types of bread, usually eight kinds of cookies, along with a number of desserts by the slice. And don't get me started on the house-made ice creams and sorbets, both with inventive flavors and all made with fresh ingredients.
All the staff are friendly and helpful. Co-owner Zoe Velush-Rogers, who runs the front of house, is always smiling and seems to know every other customer's name. There are lines on the weekends, but the wait is worth it (check their website and call ahead if you're in a rush).
The kitchen and home goods are delightful; some are quite whimsical, but all are beautiful and first-rate. To use an overused phrase, the Pantry is a real gem nestled in Litchfield County.
This is such a great pantry style super casual dine in or take out restaurant. The iced coffee is tasty, and lots of variety. There are plenty of choices for vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters alike! Gluten free is also clearly marked and available. I had the vegan cold cucumber and avocado soup with a chunky home baked slice of multigrain bread and a to die for flourless vegan chocolate chunk cookie!! I am not kidding when I say to die for!! It was a crispy, chewy and decadently rich cookie that I am sure I will dream about tonight. Hubby had a roast beef and Swiss sandwich on that same yummy multigrain bread and a slice of carrot cake. We both enjoyed our food and sat outside by the little sculpture garden. I am pleasantly full and very satisfied thanks you to the friendly and helpful staff. Inside there are tables for self seating and a many lovely kitchen and home goods available for sale. This place is worth the stop. You’ll leave happy and feeling good.
We were visiting the town for the day & decided to have lunch here. What a wonderful treat! Everything was delicious!! Poached salmon, carrot salad, potato salad, egg salad, beet salad, the cucumber soup & the GF cherry crumble & strawberry rhubarb crumble. They had great GF options. Rob was wonderful & accommodating with our desire to try so many things.
We were driving around Litchfield last year and stopped in Washington Depot for lunch. We looked a couple of spots and picked the Pantry. It was a good choice.
The place is self service where you stand in line to place your order and then they bring it to your table. We ordered a sandwich and it was fresh and very tasty. They also sell some items scattered around.
This place was amazing. The food was outstanding. It was perhaps the best grilled cheese I’ve ever had. They had a great mix of food options ranging from healthy hearty soups to decadent cookies and pastries. The service was great too. Zoey had a smile on her face the whole time and handled a ton of customers all at once with expertise. My husband and I thought it was cool that the business was a little shop as well as a cafe. We will definitely be back!
