You don’t fully appreciate how well a primary care provider is listening during routine visits until a crisis exposes the gaps in the healthcare system around you. Angela Bindics at Annandale Family Practice is the APN who made all the difference for me.
As someone with a background in public health, social work, and care coordination, I am very aware of how fragmented care has become—and how easily patients can fall through the cracks. This experience made it clear that which primary care provider you build a relationship with matters immensely. Well before an unexpected ER visit, Angela recognized that something wasn’t right and proactively scheduled monthly check-ins. That foresight made a real difference.
When I was discharged from the ER without a clear or safe plan, Angela immediately stepped in. She made space for weekly visits and became the central point of coordination when my care was at risk of becoming disjointed. Her knowledge of me as a patient, combined with the way she truly listens to me as a person, helped prevent my situation from getting worse. She helped me navigate accessing specialists who were needed to prescribe the appropriate appropriate medications, translated the confusing and conflicting medical information I was getting, and helped me understand the questions that needed to be asked—while clearly spending significant time researching and providing education that should have happened earlier in the process. (Much of that research done on her own time, outside of billable services, I'm sure.)
What stood out just as much was how effectively she worked across the care team. Her communication with supervising clinicians, the front desk, and administrative staff ensured timely appointments and prevented my case from getting stuck in red tape. From a patient safety perspective, it’s easy to imagine how differently this could have gone without her involvement. She represents the very best of primary care: exceptional clinical knowledge, deep listening, strong problem-solving, and genuine people skills that directly improve patient outcomes. That degree of coordinated care does not happen by accident—it reflects leadership, systems awareness, and a PCP who understands how to move within constraints on behalf of a patient.
Great family practice. Drs are great! Have been a patient since they opened.
The staff here show a lot of care and are very kind, over the years I have been able to appreciate their work and I have felt safe in the rooms when I was seen. There are long waiting times for some appointments, but I would not say that is particularly surprising -- especially with a smaller staff, more personalized care comes at the cost of erratic and sometimes long waiting times to support a higher volume. Overall, I think their longevity is evidence of their quality of care, and I hope to see them long into the future.
