Howard Guss, DO

I’ve been seeing Dr. Gus for many years, and I can confidently say he is one of the best. He was the one who properly diagnosed me and made sure I was managing my condition appropriately from day one. When I relocated to Florida for work, the medical care there just wasn’t the same—every appointment I had in Florida made me wish I were back under Dr. Gus’s care.

When I moved back to New Jersey, the very first call I made was to Dr. Gus. He got me in right away to ensure everything was still being managed correctly. His dedication, expertise, and genuine care are unmatched. I’m truly grateful to be his patient again. Highly recommend!

Dr. Guss is the best! I’ve been seeing him for years. I used to take my dad, and one day I mentioned to him that I was having issues clearing my throat whenever I ate something. He said, you may have GERD. Turns out that it was Barrett’s Esophagus. I had no idea. He’s been treating me ever since. He always answers all of my questions and is very respectful. I would highly recommend him for anyone looking for a great gastroenterologist.

Dr. Guss is a terrific doctor. He’s very skilled, down to earth & very friendly. I’ve been his patient for 28 years & he’s always excellent. I highly recommend him. The Optum office staff that performs his office functions is pretty terrible. Optum is closing down their gastroenterology offices in NJ at the end of November 2025,,so Dr. Guss will have new office staff after that. So separate the reviews of Dr. Guss from the office staff performance in reading these reviews (Dr. Guss is great, the Optum office staff is not).

My family and I have been truly blessed to be patients of Dr. Guss and Dr. Beri for many years. I’ve personally had the privilege of being under Dr. Guss’s care for over 20 years, and I can honestly say that I’m here today because of him. He is an incredibly compassionate, thorough, and dedicated physician who takes the time to truly listen to his patients and ensure they receive the best care possible. I couldn’t ask for a better doctor or medical team—highly recommend!

I have been a patient of Dr. Guss for maybe 20 years. He is always caring, and takes his time during my appointments and procedures. I never felt rushed. His office is busy and his staff handles everything efficiently. Sure there are times you're on hold on the phone, or waiting in his office to check in but its never more than a moment. His staff is helpful and always advocates for me. He is busy because he is good and people want to see him. If you can't wait 10 minutes and be a bit patient, then maybe a popular doctor and his staff isn't for you. I couldn't imagine not being under his care.
