⭐⭐ The NJ MVC Inspection Stations are a game of chance. On slow weekdays, it's a seamless, in-and-out 10-minute pass. Peak times mean gridlock. Staff efficiency is high, but the 'first come' queue model is a relic. Check the live cameras before you go! ⭐⭐

Motor vehicle inspections are still free in the State of New Jersey but you do have the option of paying at a private licensed facility. For anyone older that remembers those yearly inspections where you could fail for needing to replace a headlight or wiper blade, those days have been long gone. New vehicles get a five year inspection sticker in a separate location and regular inspections have been conducted every two years. During my recent visit my inspection was even shorter than two years ago. The line was somewhat long but moved quickly with all three lanes open. The employees seem to work for a private company now since there was a hiring sign. All very friendly. I was asked to shut my car off after providing my documents, never done before. No more headlight or turn signal check. Just a quick drive up, look under my vehicle, and it appeared they read the diagnostic codes from inside my vehicle. Fast, efficient, in and out on 30 minutes. Even though they wear masks and gloves they wipe your steering wheel down before returning your vehicle.

The wait was much longer than normal because of the coronavirus (about an hour). However very professional & courteous. Everyone wore masks & they sanitize your car for you @ the end! Definitely recommend!
