We stayed at Sussex motel for the first time, relying on the recent reviews. It was a great find! We had a 2 day sliing planned at Mountain Creeek (about 13 minutes drive). We are a family with 2 children: the receptionist was very nice, and took in consideration our needs, the room renovated and very clean, beds were confortable, it came with a large fridge and microwave.
We had dinner at Yamato Hibachi next door (my children had a great time), and grabbed breakfast in the morning at the Holland American Bakery (that also sells Deutsch products!)
The staff has always been responsive and caring. We will return for our next skiing trip. Do not book through a third party: call Sussex motel directly.
The room was clean. The bed was very comfortable. The owner is AMAZING. She was super responsive and helpful and really went the extra mile for us.
The motel is within walking distance of a fantastic pizza place, and easy driving distance to many local attractions.
Also we brought our dogs, and the grounds were very pleasant for dog walking.
Highly recommend for travelers on a budget.
⭐ Hidden Gem in Cow Country – Sussex Motel, NJ ⭐
Okay, I almost don’t want to write this because I don’t want to give away the secret. This little spot is tucked in the middle of nowhere—real “cow country” New Jersey—and looks like something out of Route 66. But once you step inside? Totally different story.
The rooms feel more like open-plan apartments: clean, spacious, comfy, and full of character. Think rustic meets modern, old meets new, with that lived-in charm that feels like home the second you open the door.
I went to the Lunar Faire nearby, but honestly? I was more excited to get back to the room. That’s how cozy it was.
The real stars, though, are the staff. Down-to-earth, kind, and full of personality. I had asked for early check-in, but we got delayed. Totally our fault. When we arrived late, I apologized, and instead of a shrug, we got: “No worries—you can have a later check-out instead.” That kind of customer service can’t be taught—it comes from genuine people who care.
They treat you like family here. You can sit and chat, share stories, laugh, and just be yourself. Whether you show up in flannel PJs or last night’s makeup, there’s zero judgment—just warmth, humor, and hospitality.
I forgot all my worries while I was here. It’s the kind of place that reminds you people still care—and that you don’t always have to go far to find peace.
So yes, it’s off the beaten path. But maybe that’s exactly what makes Sussex Motel special. Sometimes the best places are the ones hiding right under your nose.
If I could rate the service with 10 stars I would. The host was very friendly and talkative. Helped my crew out with parking cause of my truck and trailer. The rooms are amazing. Newly renovated. My rating would be 5 stars on the rooms however the placement of the shower current appears to have no planning during installation. The curtain attacks the occupant with a very aggressive almost life like attitude. Please fix!
This motel is everything you need for a stay in the area. The staff is super responsive and friendly. The rooms are clean, they have a full size fridge, microwave, big TV, comfortable beds and chairs. The rooms look great. Highly recommend. Thanks for a great stay!
