Arverne East Nature Preserve

Underrated place to park near Rockaway Beach. I couldn’t find a parking spot at the main site, but came across this place which was completely empty. I do have to mention you do have to walk 8-10 mins to get to the sandy area of the beach, but there are signs that help you and the view is beautiful. Place also has a restroom!!

Situated between the Atlantic Ocean and a century-old train line, I love the energy here. It’s a great retreat in the middle of the Rockaways.

I've ridden my bike here from Prospect Park several times since I discovered it a couple of months ago. I love this park and all the smooth, winding paths. It looks beautiful now that all the plants have really filled in.

There's also really nice facilities on-site. Clean bathrooms, plenty of sinks and water fountains.

At Beach 44th street the NYC Parks Department has a nice little spot with a parking lot. It includes a long ramp making it accessible for strollers, and wheelchairs. Bicycle racks and benches are available outside. Huge solar panels assembly on the roof. Inside has some needed shade for those hot days. Water fountains, unisex restroom, hand washing stations, and bench are inside. Offices make up the perimeter and what may become a meeting/community space. Can't wait to see what it looks like when the green grass grows. With a lot of space surrounding the area, It looks like there will be more development in the future within the gated areas.
