Beautiful library and very well kept. I love the area they created for children and often use their private rooms during work hours. The Brightwaters Porch area is great for silent reading but the library would highly benefit from a large glass door separating the porch from the lobby. The Lobby is often very loud from guests and employees. Sitting in the Brightwaters porch you can hear everyones conversations which is very distracting and minimizes the use of the room as a quiet study area.
I grew up in Brentwood, NY and so I also know the connecting city Bayshore pretty well. I utilize the libraries to do my work, and obtain books, it's that simple.
The library itself is pretty well maintained, and the atmosphere is calm. Most of the staff are polite and helpful and seem committed to providing quality service. There's always events going on, and the community seems to enjoy interacting with the library's services.
But, there's a few employees who are overstepping the boundaries of their job. Like I stated in the first paragraph I go to the library to do work, and obtain books. Stalking, engaging with other patrons to stalk. Yeah, that type of weirdo stuff. The kind of stuff which could get them in some trouble if someone filed a formal complaint. These libraries have cameras. It amazes how people can have degrees and be so smart in their occupation, but yet when it comes to real life be very ignorant. With professionalism comes boundaries.
Library staff is always nice and a few times that I came to this library. It was always clean.
Wonderful town library. Nice areas for the children. The teen area is quite small but well put together.
The staff seem a bit guarded and quiet, but that is typical of most public libraries. Friendly folks nonetheless. Would definitely recommend a visit. There are a lot of things to see around the library.
Beautiful library with excellent public use desktop and laptop computers; color and black white printers. Reference librarians are very professional.
Extensive cookbook selection. Also great selection of places to eat along main street Bay Shore.
