A couple of days ago I took a three hour bowl turning class with Ernie at Bentwood Studios, and I could not have been more pleased with the experience. Ernie was so knowledgeable and patient, and he really took the time to show me what to do and then let me at it. As promised I came home with a finished bowl that turned out pretty darn nice thanks to the instruction I got. If you have an interest in bowl turning or woodworking in general I fully recommend Bentwood.
I took the wood lathing class as a total beginner. It was such an amazing experience. Ernie was a wonderful teacher— hands on but gives you plenty of room to learn for yourself after he gives you the knowledge. I loved it and will be back again for another type of class!
Ernie and Glenn are AWESOME! Seriously. My fiancé got me private instruction as a gift and we took the trek from NJ to Carmel, NY and it was SO worth it! I wanted to build a parquet table for our newly renovated kitchen - and that we did! It came out even better than expected - and even more importantly, we had a blast over the two days. They are the funniest, nicest guys! I can't wait to come back up to work on another project. Definitely check this place out!!!
I attended Bentwood to check out the space and learn about some new tools. Glenn taught me how to turn some bracelets on the lathe and also and introduced me to some other tools that I've now bought for my own workshop! Glenn and Ernest are the sweetest. I had tons of fun spending the day woodworking with them and can't wait to go back!
Bentwood Studios is a great place to learn woodworking skills in a safe and fun environment. I personally have bowls, spoons, a cutting board and a rocking chair that were made there. Ernie and Glenn are patient and skilled craftsmen who love to share their knowledge with others. Their enthusiasm for their work is contagious and makes the classes truly an enjoyable experience.
