My sister was in the hospital in Freehold, N.J. for about 6 months, part of the time in CCU. She progressively got worse and was basically living on machines. Her husband, my brother-in-law, was admitted the day my sister was, admitted as he got confused and was getting dementia. He still remains in the hospital awaiting a nursing home.
My sister could not deal with living like this, so she put herself in hospice on March 23, 2022. She passed away the following day, March 24, 2022.
Rabbi Avrohom Bernstein of Freehold, N.J. happened to be in the hospital and heard about my sister going into hospice. He went to her room and prayed with her knowing that she was going to pass. He called me soon after and told me that he wanted to give my sister a Jewish burial, not a state burial because the State Guardian took over. She deserved a Jewish burial, but I could not provide it as this came about all of a sudden, her choice to pass.
I myself live across the country, the hospital was closed for most of the time due to Covid. I was advised not to fly in by my Specialist because I suffer from a chronic autoimmune disease.
After her passing, the following day, Rabbi Bernstein did as he said, and my sister was taken and given a Jewish burial by Chesed Shel Emes. I cannot believe that somebody was so kind and caring to do this for her. I am grateful to the Rabbi and this wonderful organization because I really did not know if she had a plot, did not know if she had money left, or what her wishes were because she had gotten so ill in the hospital from catching Covid from a nurse. This whole situation was a real nightmare for me, dealing with my sister becoming so ill and my brother-in-law not able to comprehend the situation. My brother in law couldn't give any information because his dementia has progressed so rapidly. It really is a shame.
My sister is buried in Upstate N.Y., Woodridge, N.Y. ,on this Jewish cemetery because of Rabbi Bernstein and the wonderful people at Chesed Shel Emes.
I am very grateful to them and could not believe the wonderful works of this organization. I was more than happy to give a donation to the Rabbi and his organization, and this wonderful organization that gave my sister a proper Jewish burial.
It was like it was a dream come true for her because I really did not know her wishes. I know that Rabbi Bernstein was very caring and wanted to see my sister buried properly, which he did.
I thank these wonderful people at Chesed Shel Emes so much and I am grateful to them.
Thank You All Again.
Amazing organization, they offer great help for those that need a Jewish burial but can't pay for it.
Rabbi Isaac Leider was extremely kind and respectful. He took care of my mother's transport from Florida to New York and rendered strictly Orthodox services--most tastefully and expertly--without charging me a shekel. Kudos to the rabbi and his team for doing such mitzvoth with such selflessness.
