Derek is the most friendly and warm-hearted luthier I have ever met. He knows exactly where the buzz of my cello comes from, which is an unglued chip at the edge of the front board. He also perfectly repair the varnish of the surface, and now my cello looks new! He even kingly adjust other parts of the instrument so I can play more smoothly. Proper price and thoughtful service. I would definitely come back if I need further help!

I personally had Derek restore an old French violin which needed quite a bit of work, including the repair of a bad crack and some much needed touch up due to an unscrupulous player from the past who marred the varnish on the top to excess. The crack completely disappeared and the touch up was superb. The set up was perfect and the instrument was in better shape than it probably had been in 150 years. He does top notch work, and I would recommend him for any work you might need.

Derek was really insightful about the process of restoring my cello and how to do things in a way that would fit my budget, timeline, and also lend an enjoyable result. He was professional and worked faster than expected well within the cost estimate.
