Governors Island is a wonderful National Park to enjoy gorgeous views of New York City’s skyline as well as for biking, reading, eating and relaxing. There’s a fancy spa which attracts tourists and city residents that seems like a wonderful way to enjoy the island!
I've seen so many stunning photos taken from Outlook Hill, so I finally made the trip out myself. Let me tell you, the view does not disappoint. It is a truly spectacular, panoramic shot of the harbor and the Statue of Liberty that feels surprisingly intimate. What the photos don't show is the long walk to get there from the ferry landing. If you don't rent a bike, be prepared for a solid 20-minute trek. Also, there aren't many food or drink vendors on this side of the island, so plan ahead. It was completely worth it for the view and the photos, but definitely wear comfortable shoes.
It just so happened that on a weekday before Memorial Day with clouds and a little bit of rain, we were the only tourists on Outlook Hill. I cannot tell you how incredible it felt to have the whole place to ourselves. I would highly recommend doing this if you get the opportunity. I have been to Governors Island and this hill countless times, and it is always amazing, but this was really special.
This island had become of of my favorite spots to getway from the chaotic nature of NYC. And this spot offer the best views, you get a full 360 view of the lower hudson bay, Manhattan downtown skyline. Definitely worth visiting, you won't regret it. You'll be able to take plenty of Instagram worthy photos.
