The launch was fine, but unfortunately, kayaking was very limited due to very low water levels and obstructions. This is mostly due to the recent lack of rain. We learned from other visitors that spring is is more reliable for higher water levels.
Beautiful spot but multiple downed trees in both directions. Portaged under/over one to the left only to be obstructed by shallow clumps of branches that impeded passage. To the right there were 3 narrow areas from branches down and a beaver’s den that blocked almost the whole river. Hopefully FROGS or other folks in the area will have a chance to clear soon. Drove an hour looking forward to the paddle (for the last year) and would love to try again if passable! Hopefully a more recent review will confirm.
A gorgeous hidden gem located in Putnam Valley! The Great Swamp is truly a beautiful location and must be protected. It was such a wonderful experience, there was a park ranger there as well making sure everyone was following the rules.
No bathroom or tap, but this is a beautiful put-in for kayaking. There is no ramp, so your feet get wet, but it’s a wetland bird paradise. I went left, and couldn’t go far, because of a downed tree, but the other direction was fine.
Easy put in for your kayaks. Parking for approx 8-12 cars. Nice paddle, lots of wildlife and beautiful foliage. They are in process of building a nice boardwalk along Swamp.
