If you’re in the Woodridge area and haven’t yet chap’d a visit to Honeydew Supermarket, you’re mamish missing out on one of the main “mokom hiskansus” of the summer. It’s not just a grocery — it’s like the bungalow colony headquarters with shopping carts.
Honeydew is that place where you pop in for “just a few things,” and suddenly your wagon is loaded like you’re making a chasunah in the country. They’ve got a real solid kosher selection — from basics for the weekday suppers to all the Erev Shabbos must-haves. You can literally do the whole shop in one shot and not have to shlep around from place to place. For upstate standards, that’s already a big nes.
The aisles are wide, the store is bright and clean, and the produce is usually looking very respectable — no “is this cucumber still with us?” shailos. You’ve got plenty of Heimishe brands, good pizza and takeout options, and enough nosh to keep the kids quiet on the ride back to the bungalow (for at least 7 minutes).
Prices are pretty fair for the mountains — we all know “country pricing” is a matzav, but Honeydew keeps it within normal range so you don’t need a second mortgage just to make a Shabbos. Sales are actually worthwhile, not just cute signs.
Staff is friendly and patient, even when it’s Erev Shabbos, Erev Yom Tov, raining, and every Yid from three camps and four colonies is in there at the same time. They help you find what you need, keep things moving at the registers, and somehow manage to stay calm while people are asking for “that specific brand my wife likes.”
