Great piece of American history turned into a museum. Ticket grants you access to the Intrepid filled with WWII and cold war era aicrafts, space exploration where you can see a space shuttle, and a submarine. There are many guides including cold war veterans to share amazing stories about the artifacts.
The one thing I would improve is the signage around the ship for self guided exploration.
There is no parking at that pier so you have to seek parking in nearby garages.

We had good time with my son visiting in October.
Interesting trip, we took couple extra excursions like Concorde and submarine.
    Concorde was really worth it.
I would avoid long weekends etc.
It may be a little pain to find affordable parking if you do not book ahead (even same morning or day b4).
    Positive experience.

The Intrepid Museum is a historic place to visit. The People at the front desk where everyone checks in and purchase their tickets are very professional and kind. The lines to enter the building is very structured, it is like airport lines. The security check bags and instruct everyone to go through the metal detector scanner upon entering the building. The museum walk is self guided at your own pace. You can spend the entire day at the museum and they don’t ask to leave. They have restaurants and snacks vendors machines and souvenirs shops inside the museum. The museum is inside a huge ship. Also is a submarine ship under the water at the museum, if you are afraid of tiny space, they advise you not to go inside the submarine because once you get inside, you can’t turn back until you finish the entire tour of the submarine. Also are many different types of Navy aircraft on display at the museum. The aircraft are magnificent and historical. The Intrepid Museum is a fun place to spend the day and explore with friends and family.

The Intrepid Museum is a fantastic spot for family time! We had an amazing visit and learned so much about submarines, military history, and more. It’s very educational and fun for both kids and adults. We especially loved being able to go inside the submarine and explore the ship — such a unique and memorable experience! Highly recommend for families visiting New York.

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City is an topnotch destination for anyone interested in history, aviation, and exploration. Located on the historic aircraft carrier USS Intrepid along the Hudson River, the museum offers visitors a hands-on experience that feels both educational and inspiring. From the moment you step aboard, you become immersed in decades of American military and technological innovation — surrounded by restored aircraft, detailed exhibits, and stories of courage and ingenuity.

One of the museum’s highlights is its diverse collection of aircraft and spacecraft, including the Space Shuttle Enterprise, a Concorde jet, and a range of military planes and helicopters. Each exhibit is thoughtfully presented with interactive displays and personal stories that bring the history of the air or spacecraft to life. An additional treat for visitors is the submarine Growler. You can gain historical insight into Cold War-era naval life, or climb through sections of the Intrepid itself, such as the flight deck and crew quarters, to better understand life aboard an aircraft carrier over 70 years ago..

Beyond its impressive artifacts, the museum excels at making complex history accessible to visitors of all ages. Its educational programs, flight simulators, and seasonal events foster engagement and curiosity, making it equally appealing to families, students, and aviation enthusiasts. With sweeping views of Manhattan and the Hudson, the setting adds to the experience, blending the grandeur of the city with the awe of human achievement. Overall, the Intrepid Museum stands as a dynamic tribute to exploration, innovation, and the people who made it possible.

The museum is largely ADA accessible but with some limitations. Overall my 14 year old son and I had an amazing visit, and I be you and your family will too.
