Great staff and a lot stuff to look at and interact with
I didn't know what to expect. The museum was remodeled in 2019. It closed during Covid-19, and now it has reopened. It is a great representation of all the wars. The heroes of our country on display. I learned quite a bit. It is a must-see if ever in the New Windsor area of New York.
I passed by this location a few times when it wasn't open; I'm glad I finally made it there. Admission is free to the public and there is a reasonable amount of parking, with a few EV chargers. The museum is closed Mondays. The New Windsor site is also the location for the last cantonment of George Washington near Newburgh at the end of the Revolutionary War. The campground and related memorials surround the museum. The Purple Heart Museum is at once solemn and inspiring. I recommend a visit for any veteran, or anyone with an interest in the military, and US history.
If you haven't visited this site recently, I highly advise a trip in. The museum has been beautifully remodeled with a newer section that will humble most visitors. Looking forward to returning 🤘🏻🇺🇲
My favorite things about the Purple Heart Museum:
1. Admission is FREE for EVERYONE!
2. They have an activity for the kids that gets them involved in the exhibits and keeps them busy. Then when they’re done with their project, they talk to the person at the front desk about what they learned and they get a little keepsake.
3. It’s interesting to learn all about the history of the Purple Heart, and it’s an honor to view primary source videotaped accounts of stories of survivorship from some of America’s bravest and best.
4. It’s also amazing to see the Revolutionary War-era cabins outside of the museum. The kids especially enjoyed learning in the outdoor environment.
The Purple Heart Museum is affordable and it’s a place your whole family can go to together. I certainly recommend it.
