This visitor center welcomes visitors to an estate originally owned by the Rockefeller family who became synonymous with excessive wealth during the Gilded Age. The Rockefellers began establishing their estate in 1893. Like other rich people who wanted their own whimsical forest like a medieval feudal lord, they borrowed concepts from the firm of Frederick Law Olmsted, which had begun working with the family a few years earlier in 1887. The most fun part about the carriage roads were the bridges spanning the little rivers with many showcased on the Thirteen Bridges Loop. Another architectural feature was the Old Croton Aqueduct (OCA) Weir Chambers. These allowed workers to control the flow of water through the pipes, enabling them to drain the line and make repairs.

Hidden in plain site the Rockerfeller Art Gallery lays hidden inside a stand of un touched forest; purchased by old man John D Rock eons ago. Curated by an amazing staff, presenting the most insightful works to a burgeoning audience of hungry art enthusiasts!!! A must see in Westchester…

Stop here for actual maps to take with you and other nature literature. We got some good trail info from the informative girl behind the counter.

I took public transport to get to the park. Used the map as a guide to hit the trails and took in the beautiful views. I stumbled on a farm near greenrock road trail. The reserve has trails for everyone, and I’d highly recommend checking it out!

One of the most beautiful state parks. Multiple well maintained trails to suit everyone. Clean and safe. Best place around for fall hikes!

Parking fee $6 applies all days year round from 8:30am - 4:30pm

Very limited Parking. If you are visiting on weekends, prepare to park on the highway outside (which may already have a long line of parked cars)
