The beach is clean and serene, however, erosion has certainly taken its toll. There is barely any distance from the boardwalk and dunes to the ocean, even at lower tide.

County park’s parking lot is a convenient starting point to explore Fire Island wilderness area whose visitor center has only few handicapped parking spots. 18$ parking fee looks a bargain comparing to Hamptons or NYC beaches (but state parks like Jones Beach or Robert Moses offer much lower price point). Beach facilities and vibe of the beach with its live music entertainment at the restaurant made the visit more memorable comparing to rest of LI south shore barrier island beaches.

Beach is clean with lifeguards present during normal hours. Great bar/restaurant right on the beach. Other beach goers are overall friendly. Be sure to check out the TWA flight 800 memorial while you are there. Dogs are welcome. Highly recommend!!!

Was there a few days ago, and the lifeguards were so vigilant and actively tracking swimmers! There were 3 people who needed assistance coming back into shore and these Life Guards were impressive and in the water with everyone! Bravo to those strong and vigilant lifeguards!
